Bhatkal: Baba Saheb Mane has assumed charge as the first Commissioner of the Bhatkal City Municipal Council (CMC), marking an important administrative development following the town’s recent upgrade.
Mane, who was earlier serving at the Kudachi Town Municipal Council, has been transferred and appointed to the post. He took charge at the municipal office after a formal handover from outgoing Chief Officer Venkatesh Nauda.
Bhatkal was recently elevated to a City Municipal Council, with its jurisdiction expanded by merging the existing Town Municipal Council with Jali Pattan Panchayat and Heble Gram Panchayat areas. The newly formed civic body now covers an area of about 22.67 square kilometres.
Speaking after assuming office, Mane said his immediate focus would be on improving essential civic services, including sanitation, street lighting and drinking water supply. He also stressed the need for public cooperation in maintaining cleanliness, particularly through proper waste segregation.
He assured that civic complaints would be addressed promptly and said efforts would be made to ensure efficient delivery of municipal services across the town.
