At Dubai airport, Smartphone can be used as passport

Dubai: Smart gates to gradually replace current e-gates at Dubai airport. With the introduction of Smart gates, there will be no need for physical verification of traveler’s documents.
This new system is launched by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) Dubai.
According to the news published in Khaleej Times, Capt. Amer Rashed Almheiri, GDRFA director of smart application department said that with the implementation of this system, departure and arrival check can be done in less than 15 seconds.
This system will use Smart UAE Wallet which can be downloaded on Smartphone. It will store all details of passport and smart gate card data. Passengers need to scan the barcode on their smartphones to open the smart gate. Passengers also need to scan their fingerprint.
It may be mentioned that currently at Dubai airport terminals e-gates are used. With the implementation of this new system, Emiratis, GCC and UAE residents can use smart gates to avoid queues.
The smart wallet can be downloaded for free from iTunes and Google Play.
It is also reported that by using this app, passengers don’t need to carry their passport and boarding pass.
