Artist S H Raza passes away

Agencies | New Delhi | 23 July, 2016 Celebrated modern Indian artist Syed Haider Raza passed away on Saturday. He was 94. The iconic progressive artist died in the capital following a prolonged illness. He was kept in the ICU of a private hospital here for two months. Raza was considered one of the greatest Indian modern artists. Well-known for his abstract creation, his works have very rich elements of Indian cosmology and philosophy. In 1981, he was awarded the Padma Shri, the Padma Bhushan in 2007 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2013. In 2015, he was also honoured with the highest French civilian award, the Commandeur de la Legion d'honneur (Legion of Honour). Raza was a founder-member of the Progressive Artists' Group. Considering his wishes, the last rites will be conducted in Mandala in Madhya Pradesh, according to reports.
