Ankola: Male nurse shoots himself with double barrel gun after online criticism over expired medicine

Karwar: A long-time employee of Pikale Nursing Home in Karwar died by suicide on Friday at Aversa village in Ankola taluk of Uttara Kannada district.

The deceased has been identified as Raju Pikale, who reportedly shot himself with a double-barrel gun at his residence.

According to sources, about 15 days ago, allegations surfaced that an expired medicine had been administered to a patient at Pikale Nursing Home. A relative of the patient had recorded a video related to the incident and circulated it on social media, where it went viral across the district.

Following the incident, Raju Pikale is said to have come under severe mental stress. After the video surfaced, he reportedly admitted that the incident had occurred due to an oversight and had publicly apologised. However, continued criticism and alleged harassment on social media reportedly pushed him into deep depression.

On Friday morning, he allegedly took the extreme step at his home. Police officials rushed to the spot, conducted a preliminary inspection, and registered a case. Further investigation is underway.
