Anjuman MBA Students holds awareness program against Plastic

Bhatkal – 02 Dec 2012: On a bustling day at the Sunday vegetable market in Bhatkal, the MBA students took the crowd by storm. As a part of the corporate social responsibility the students created an awareness programme with a street play, ”EK DO TEEN CHAAR, BAND KARO YE ATYACHAAR’’. First time in the history of Bhatkal, such a programme was witnessed to propagate a message ‘’SAY NO TO PLASTIC’’. The students conveyed the adverse effects of excessive plastic usage that may cause cancer and at the same time create an ecological imbalance. The play was conducted in two languages namely Hindi and Kannada. It was repeated at three different spots within the market where the crowd from different social classes and various religious backgrounds converged. Prominent personalities like Mr. Inayatulla Shabandri - Town Municipal President, Mr. Sudheer Kumar - Assistant Superintendent of Police, AITM Principal Mr.Udaya Prasanna and AITM Secretary Mr. Abubaker Kasimji made their presence to voice their opinion and support this cause. All these personalities spoke on the occasion and addressed the crowd on the bad effects of the excessive usage of non-degradable waste such as Plastic. Especially TMC President encouraged such programmes and suggested a few more areas which could be the subjects for such future activities. The event was complimented with banners all across and free distribution of jute bags to the public. The AITM MBA students with their smiling faces and positive behaviour went ahead and interacted with many shoppers and vendors. ‘’There need to be periodic and random rates on shops and penalized if found using plastic bags’’ said one of the educated shopper who expressed his concern. Another vegetable vendor was found saying that the town municipality should take initiative to supply such eco friendly bags at the subsidized rates. This event was possible by the genuine efforts of Mr. Aheed Mohtisham, an Associate Professor at AITM and an Environmentalist who co-ordinated the event with the help of students and HoD Mr Aftab.
