Bhatkal: With campus placements and career opportunities approaching for final-year students, Anjuman Arts, Science and Commerce College, Bhatkal, organised an Interview Skills Workshop on February 26 to help students prepare for professional interviews.

The programme was held as part of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) initiative and was organised by the Students’ Welfare Wing under the direction of Principal Prof. Mohammed Yusuf Kola. The workshop was attended by final-year students of BA, B.Sc. and B.Com.

The session began at 10 am with a recitation of the Holy Qur’an by Abdul Badi Siddiqua of B.Com final year, followed by a welcome address by Suraqa Hasan. Umer Ekkeri introduced the resource person and underlined the need for interview readiness in an increasingly competitive job market.

Prof. Jaikishen Bhat, the resource person for the workshop, guided students through the essentials of facing interviews with confidence. He explained what employers look for in candidates and stressed the importance of combining subject knowledge with effective communication and professional behaviour.

A key feature of the workshop was an interactive listening exercise aimed at improving students’ ability to understand interview questions clearly before responding. Participants were given real-time feedback, helping them recognise common mistakes such as interrupting, giving unfocused answers or lacking structure in responses.

The session also included a detailed explanation of Graduate Trainee Programs in corporate organisations. Students were introduced to the structure of such programmes, including training phases, departmental rotations and performance evaluations. Emphasis was laid on developing technical skills, soft skills and leadership qualities.

Prof. Bhat presented a structured 26-point checklist for interview preparation. Topics covered included resume presentation, researching prospective employers, body language, grooming, situational responses and follow-up practices after interviews.

At the conclusion of the programme, a memento was presented to the resource person by the Principal. The formal vote of thanks was delivered by Aash Matta.

The event was documented by Salim Armaan (videography) and Yusuf Ayaan (photography). Discipline arrangements were overseen by Amaan Muallim, Zulfiqar Ali and Imran Faqui.
