October 07, 2014 | Rizwan Gangavaly | Bhatkallys News Bhatkal: Angry residents of Bhatkal took on HESCOM officials and accused them of partiality towards a particular community on Monday morning after power outage for 17 hours on the first day of Eid only due to minor lightning and thunderstorm irked them. Members of Majlise Islah Wa Tanzeem too visited the HESCOM office and blasted HESCOM's Assistant Engineer Manjunath. Laying many charges on the HESCOM department, the public accused HESCOM of resorting to lame excuses as there seemed no justification for 17-hour long power outage only after minor lightning and thunderstorm. Responding to the accusations, the Assistant Engineer (AE) said that the power outage was caused due to fault in main power line between Honnavar and Murudeshwar for which the responsibility lies with KDCL and not with HESCOM. He further said that, he himself reached the spot and also extended cooperation to KDCL to restore the supply. Members of many organizations present at the occasion advised the AE to take precautionary measures in this regard. - ARF
