AIM and MESCO to help Madrasas build English medium Schools

Washington DC - 22 March 2011: The Association of Indian Muslims of America (AIM), a Washington DC based NGO of Indian-American Muslims and Muslim Educational, Social, Cultural Organization (MESCO), a Hyderabad based NGO plan to join hands to help some madrasas in Uttar Pradesh to build English medium high schools. MESCO has alreadysuccessfully helped some madrasas in Andhra Pradesh build and operate such English medium schools, and is presently planning to build one such school in Muzaffarnagar, western UP.
The program selects a presently operating madrasa and provides them financial and management assistanceto build the building, infrastructure and teaching program for an English medium school. After the building of the school is completed,MESCO continues to help the madrasa management to operate the school. Typically, students study bothIslamic subjects and regular subjects upto class VIII.At that time students are given the choice to either continue Islamic religious studies (Aalim, Fazil)or High School in science andmathematics.The curriculam is that of the government of India's Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).Several such schools are operating successfully in the state ofKerala.
AIM and MESCO have started searching a currently operating madrasa in a city in Uttar Pradesh that is agreeable for such a program. AIM has also begun preparations to raise funds for this program that they plan to start in 2011. AIM requests all who know of such madrasas in UP to contact them and provide them the requisite information.
