After Ranginkatte, Bhatkal’s iconic clock tower at Shamsuddin Circle demolished for NH-66 widening: Watch Video

Bhatkal,  28 February: (Bhatkallys News Bureau) The iconic clock tower at Shamsuddin Circle in Bhatkal was demolished on Saturday afternoon as part of the ongoing widening work of National Highway 66.

 

The structure, which had stood for over two decades, was considered a landmark of the town. With its distinctive design featuring replicas of two gold bangles, the clock tower had become closely associated with Bhatkal’s identity. Travellers passing through the town often used it as a reference point to know they had reached Bhatkal

 

Over the years, the clock tower had appeared in magazines, photographs, logos and various other materials representing the town. For many residents, it symbolised a familiar image of Bhatkal.

 

Hundreds of people gathered at the spot on Saturday to witness the demolition. Many recorded the moment on their mobile phones as earthmovers brought down the structure.

 

The demolition comes just weeks after another well-known landmark along NH-66 in Bhatkal, the Ranginkatte tree, was cut down. Some local residents had claimed that the tree was around 700 years old.
