Lucknow: After approving the construction of a 221-metre long statue of Ram in Ayodhya, Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has decided to install four new statues in the state, including that of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Swami Vivekananda. Vajpayee’s 25-feet tall statue will be installed at Lok Bhawan, Lucknow while Swami Vivekananda statue will be erected at the portals of Raj Bhawan. Apart from these two, 12.5 feet tall statues of Mahant Avaidyanath and Mahant Digvijay Nath will also be installed in Gorakhpur, informed Special Secretary of Culture Department Shishir. As per the reports, Adityanath has given his approval for all the statues and the work has already started. Reacting to this, former UP CM Akhilesh Yadav slammed Adityanath for wasting the taxpayers’ money and advised him to focus on the development of the state. Recently, senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member Dr Karan Singh had written a letter to CM Adityanath requesting him to build a statue of Goddess Sita alongside Lord Ram at Ayodhya. Singh’s letter got support from saints and seers who backed the demand made by the veteran scholar and urged the CM to construct a Sita statue next to Lord Ram. The state government has not revealed the details of the cost of construction but five firms have already been shortlisted. The government is also planning to divert the water of River Saryu so that it touches the feet of Lord Ram’s statue while passing. The government is already working with the irrigation department in connection with this plan. Source: Times Now
