Bhatkal: 21 August 2024 (Bhatkallys News Bureau) After a gap of 28 months, the Jali Patan Panchayat has elected its new leadership. In the elections held on Wednesday, Afsha Qazia was elected unopposed as the President of the Jali Patan Panchayat, while Advocate Imran Lanka secured the position of Vice President, also unopposed. Both candidates had received backing from Majlis-e-Islah wa Tanzeem Bhatkal.

The state government had earlier reserved the post of President for a general woman candidate and the Vice President's position for a candidate from Backward Class A (BCA). The organization's decision to field Afsha Qazia and Imran Lanka, both well-respected figures in the community, proved decisive, as no other candidates contested these positions.

The unopposed elections of Afsha Qazia and Imran Lanka follow a similar pattern seen in recent local elections. On Tuesday, Muhiddin Altaf Kharuri, backed by Majlis-e-Islah wa Tanzeem, was elected as the Vice President of the Bhatkal Town Municipal Council without opposition.

Following the announcement of the election results, celebrations erupted among the supporters of Afsha Qazia and Imran Lanka. Councilors and community members presented garlands and sweets to the newly elected leaders.
