Advocates on relay hunger strike

The State’s advocates fraternity, led by former advocate generals, on Monday began a week-long relay hunger strike demanding filling of up 62% of posts of judges of the Karnataka High Court that are vacant. Former A-Gs B.V. Acharya, Ashok Haranahalli, and Ravivarma Kumar, and several designated senior counsel have joined the strike in front the Golden Jubilee gate of the High Court building. Union Minister for Statistics and Programme Implementation D.V. Sadananda Gowda, who met the advocates on strike, assured them that he would discuss the issue of delay in appointment of judges to the Karnataka HC with the Union Law Minister and the Prime Minister. Advocates’ Association, Bengaluru president A.P. Ranganatha and other office-bearers, Bar Council of India’s Co-Chairman Y. R. Sadashiva Reddy and other advocates are taking part in the demonstration.
