Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, on Thursday, assured the Legislative Council that there should be no shortage of drinking water during summer in City.
Siddaramaiah, who is also minister in-charge for Bangalore, said the government has earmarked Rs 66 crore for the purpose of ensuring adequate potable water to citizens.
At present, government is giving permission to dig borewells based on requirements.
"We are already supplying water to locations, through tankers, where there is no availability of drinking water. If required, we will extend the facility to all possible areas where there is a shortfall of potable water,” he said.
Recycled water
In a separate response on the use of recycled water, Siddaramaiah said the government will be installing an additional 11 waste water purification in Bangalore to purify waste water being generated by industries and households located in City.
The chief minister said currently there are 14 such recycling units in Bangalore. Siddaramaiah said the City is generating 1,000 mld of waste water every day.
However, the installed capacity of recycling waste water is only for 721 mld.
"As much as 257 mld of waste water is mixing with rivers flowing through Bangalore. We are building 11 additional units of purifying waste water to arrest this phenomenon,” he added. The deadline for installing these units is March 2016.
