A new map, released today, shows the location of 14 new radars in the capital, capable of recording speed violations. The radars are already operational and recording offenders. Several of the new radars will be located along the Sheikh Zayed Street and tunnel, where last year alone, police recorded 70,000 speed violations. The speed limit along the street is 80 kilometres per hour and goes down to 60k/hr in some locations. There will also be a radar along one of the entrances to the city - on Sheikh Rashid Street in the Al Raha area. Three other areas - Corniche Road, Baynunah and Khaleej Al Arabi streets - will also have speed cameras, according to the map. The UAE has one of the highest accident rates in the world. Statistics from 2009, compiled by the World Health Organisation show that the car accident death rate in the UAE is 37.1 per 100,000 people, compared to a global average of 18.8 per 100,000 people. googlemapweb   - TheNational.ae
