It took AB de Villiers just one innings to soar to the top of the ICC ODI Rankings - for the 14th time in his career. De Villiers, who was making a comeback to the international fold after having last played in the Champions Trophy in June, returned for the three One-Day Internationals against Bangladesh, and smashed a career-best 176 in the second ODI in Paarl. After the openers Quinton de Kock, who himself gained three spots to end up at fifth place, and Hashim Amla, at ninth spot, wrapped a ten-wicket win in the opening ODI, de Villiers made the most of his opportunity in the second, belting away 15 fours and seven sixes in his 104-ball knock. The South African mainstay leapfrogged David Warner and Virat Kohli to take the top spot in the rankings. The 2-0 lead also helped South Africa pip India to the top spot in the ODI team rankings. An International Cricket Council release on Friday (October 20) also declared a new No.1 among ODI bowlers - Pakistan's Hasan Ali, following his five-wicket haul in the Abu Dhabi gamer against Sri Lanka in the five-match series. The 23-year-old has returned nine wickets in the series so far, to move up the rankings to become the fifth bowler this year after Trent Boult, Imran Tahir, Kagiso Rabada and Josh Hazlewood to occupy the top slot. Pakistan's seven-wicket win in the third one-dayer also gained them a series win as they lead 3-0. Babar Azam, who scored hundreds in the first two ODIs versus Sri Lanka, moved up to a career-best fourth, while Bangladesh's Mushfiqur Rahim, whose century went in vain against South Africa in the first ODI, ended at 18th. In addition, Mohammad Hafeez pipped Bangladesh's Shakib Al Hasan as the top all-rounder in ODIs, for the ninth time in his career. If South Africa beat Bangladesh 3-0, then they will move to 121 points, who are right now tied with India on 120 points, just decimals ahead. However, if India beat New Zealand in the opening ODI of the three-match series in Mumbai, then they will reclaim the top spot. Source: Cricbuzz
