8 children killed in crash near Kundapur

Kundapur, 21 June 2016: A horrific road accident has claimed the life of eight children including six boys and two girls in an accident near Tarasi on National Highway 66. A Maruti Omni involved in the accident was completely damaged. The incident happened at around 8:00 am when a private bus and school van collided. According to local TV reports, the incident took place in Kundapur area in Udupi and the children belonged to Don Bosco High School. As per sources, the van had stopped at an intersection just a few metres from the school when the speeding bus ran into it form behind, completely crushing a part of the vehicle. The driver of the bus that collided with the van has been arrested. 10 injured students were also rushed to KMC Manipal Hospital. The deceased children have been identified as Nikita, Ananya, Selista, Ansita, Alvita, Roysten, Delvin and Clarisha. More details awaited.
