70.64% voting in Bhatkal Assembly Constituency

Bhatkal - Voters from the Bhatkal constituency turned out in large numbers as the official voting statistics were announced early on Monday morning. A total of 1,33,933 people out of 1,89,586 total electorate voted surpassing last elections’s figure (2008) which stood at 63.47. The highest polling percentage was recorded in the Higher Primary School booth in Kuntavani, a village in Honnavar taluk – 89.43 pc while the booth at the Model Urdu Boys school in Murdeshwar recorded only 43.76 per cent making it the least polling percentage booth. Among Muslim areas in the town, a booth in Anjuman girls high school recorded 70.68 polling percentage, Urdu Higher Primary School Makhdoom Colony (North) (70.37); Al Kausar Girls Islamic college in Sultan Street (East) registered 71.62 pc. Among the least polling percentage booths include Anand Ashram Convent School (West) - 50.51 and Anjuman Takiya Urdu primary school in Takiya street (east) – 53.89 pc.
A total of ten candidates are in the fray. In 2008, JD Naik of Congress polled 49,079 votes to emerge winner.
