700 sheep killed in Karnataka’s Sindhanur as fire engulfs transport shed

Sindhanur: A major fire accident claimed the lives of more than 700 sheep at a transport shed in Mukkunda village of Sindhanur taluk in the early hours of Friday.

 

The shed had been set up by Y. Hemalatha Madhusudan Rao on about 10 guntas of land within her five-acre agricultural field. The animals were reportedly kept there as part of sheep transport operations.

 

According to preliminary information, the fire broke out around 3 am. The flames rapidly spread through the shed, leaving little chance to rescue the animals. All the sheep trapped inside were burnt to death.

 

In addition to the livestock, fodder stocked at the shed, a tractor and several other materials used for transporting sheep were also destroyed in the fire. The value of the damaged items is estimated to be around Rs 4 lakh.

 

The sudden blaze has caused heavy loss to the owner. Police and fire and emergency services personnel visited the location and carried out initial inspection. The exact reason for the fire is yet to be determined.
