61-day fishing ban in Coastal Karnataka from June 1

Karwar: The Karnataka government has decided to impose 61-day ban on fishing from June 1 to July 31 as suggested by the Centre, an official release said here. Mechanised boats and traditional boats fitted with inboard or outboard engines of 10 hp and above are banned from carrying out fishing activities during the period. The release said the Centre had suggested extension of the fishing ban along the west coast from 45 days to 61 days. The order bans fishing in the exclusive economic zones from 12 nautical miles to 200 nautical miles in the sea.
