52,000 tonnes sand reaches Mangaluru port from Malaysia; to be distributed to several districts to end scarcity

Zaorez Shabab Mangaluru 09 Dec 2017: The first installment of proposed 5 lac tonnes of sand to be imported from Malaysia to end the scarcity of sand in the region and to deal with the high prices, reached the Mangaluru city port on Friday. According to the sources the first installment has 52,000 tonnes of sand which amounts up to 2500 truck loads of sand. Delta infra company will deal with the handling and distribution of the sand to several districts using trucks. Akar Enterprises a Chennai based firm imported the sand reportedly chose the Mangaluru port over Chennai port which is near comparatively is nearer to Malaysia, keeping in mind the handling and shipping charges which is far less at Mangaluru port compared to Chennai port. The ship left Malaysia ten days ago and reached Mangaluru on Friday. The unloading working is already in progress while the State government hopes to curb the sand scarcity in the region by importing the sand from Malaysia.
