37 dead as bus travelling from Goa to Mumbai falls off bridge

Mumbai: Thirty seven people have been killed and more than 15 injured after a private bus they were travelling in fell off a bridge near Khed in Ratnagiri district on the Mumbai-Goa highway in western Maharashtra. The driver is among the injured. (See pics)
The accident took place around 2:30 am when the bus, on its way from Goa to Mumbai, suddenly lost control on the Bharna bridge over Jagbudi river, 190 km from Maharashtra's capital Mumbai, and crashed into the river, said BL Shinde, an official from the highway department.
As the bus capsized, some of the passengers sustained head injuries.
There were some foreigners onboard; one Russian national has been rescued.
The police is probing whether the driver was drunk; he has been subjected to a medical test.
The injured have been shifted to Khed civil hospital.
