22,000 candidates write NET

Bangalore : The clash of dates of NET with the ongoing Karnataka Administrative Services (KAS) exams of the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) proved to be a deterrent for some NET aspirants
Over 22,000 candidates appeared for the University Grants Commission (UGC) National Eligibility Test (NET) held here on Sunday.
Nearly 92 per cent of the 24,600 candidates expected to appear for the test, which determines eligibility to lecturership and also for the junior research fellowship, wrote the exam held in 41 centres under Bangalore University.
As was followed in the exam held in June this year (NET is held twice a year), all three papers were objective and candidates were also allowed to take carbon copies of their answer sheets.
T.D. Kemparaju, co-ordinator for NET’s Bangalore centres, said the results are announced by the UGC usually within two to three months, but they should be out earlier this time as all papers were objective. The answers would be posted on the UGC website after tabulation was over, which would take a month, he added.

“I will have to wait till next year to write NET again. But the government calls for applications to the posts of lecturer in February or March,” he said.
