Bhatkal: A driver and cleaner of a truck transporting fish from Honnavar to Mangalore were looted off their belongings yesterday midnight at around 1.30 am near Bhatkal Gorte Cross on NH66.
As per sources, two persons, identified as Shekar Manju Naik of Purvarga and Shankar Madheva Naik of Marukeri, stopped the lorry using their bike as a barricade and thrashed the driver and cleaner and looted money and mobiles from them. The truck driver is identified as Abdul Muzaffar of Sirsi.
Police have arrested Shekar Manju Naik but his confederate Shankar Madheva Naik escaped on the bike, Splendor pro which has the registration no. KA 47 K 7286 and is still at large. Shekar has been remanded to police custody till 19th Dec 2013.
A case has been registered at Rural Police Station by PSI Lachhappa Naik and CPI Belliappa is investigating the case.
