15th century inscription of Sangamay Dynasty found in Udupi village

Udupi, January 19,2011 : An important inscription of 15th century belonging to the Sangama Dynasty of Vijayanagar Empire is discovered at Rattadi, a small villege in Kundapura taluk of Udupi District.

The stone record was preserved in the Bhandarkars College Kundapur and brought to the notice of Prof T Murugeshi, lecturer in Ancient History & Archaeology, MSRS College, Shirva, Prashanth Shetty of Milagres College, Kallianpura by Udaya Kumar and Gopal, the faculties of history, Bhandarkar's college.

The top of the inscription designed in a horseshoe type and having a standing Nandi, Linga with Prabhavali, a lamp, a seated man in selute posture, Sun and Moon from left to right respectively at the base. It was written in Kannada language and script with specific date in saka era.

It has great significance in the study of Vijayanagar as well as Tuluva history of the period. The record making mention Sangama Emperor Devaraya I with his sounding royal titles like "Raajaadhiraaja Raaja Parameshwara, Bhasege Tappuva Raayara Ganda Praudha Devaraaya Odeyaru". When Devaraya I ruling in Vijayanagar as an emperor, his officer Bhachanna Odeya apper to be defeated and subdued some rulers of Kabsanaala Durga.

The inscription begins with an innvocation of Lord Ganesh, Lord Shiva and one Bringinatha. It was dated in saka year 1330, sarvadhari savtsara, sravana bahul, 12. Sunday, this corresponded to 1408 AD. But sarvadhari samvantsara is not a match with 1408 AD, Prof T Murugeshi said.
