BENGALURU: The Central Crime Branch investigating the ComedK scam, where imposters appeared for the exam, blocked seats and later surrendered them, is likely to file a preliminary chargesheet against 25 accused, including 15 doctors, in July first week. CCB is looking at options to file more FIRs to unravel the possible links of touts with college managements. "We have succeeded in establishing links between the touts and impersonators. But we don't have any material evidence to prove that the college managements were hand-in-glove with the accused and were part of their modus op erandi," a police official said. Last year, CCB issued showcause notices to nine private medical colleges, demanding an explanation for allegedly converting 597 seats into management quota by illegal means. The notices resulted in representatives of various college managements filing anticipatory bail applications to evade arrest. Later, three special teams of CCB zeroed in on 15 doctors working in private hospitals in Bihar, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. "We suspect the accused had written more such exams in previous years. The preliminary chargesheet will focus on the illegal surrender of seats that happened in 2014. While filing the final chargesheet, we will include the scams in 2012 and earlier," sources said. -TOI
