12-year-old girl student dies in Karnataka road accident

CHIKKABALLAPURA: A 12-year-old girl student died after a car knocked down a bike on National Highway 234 near Chintamani taluk in Chikkaballapura district of Karnataka on Monday morning.
The deceased, Srushti, was the pillion rider while her elder brother Umashankar was dropping her to Vidyaniketana School where she studied.
The incident took place around 9am when the car driven by one Srinivas knocked down the bike when they were trying to take a right turn near Konappalli village gate. The car hit the bike from front which was traveling towards Chintamani. The passersby rushed both to a nearby hospital where doctors declared Srushti brought dead. Umashankar who has been severely injured is being treated in the hospital.
The protesters said that member of Parliament K H Muniyappa's elder sister's son Srinivas was driving the car but police said that they have not received any complaint specifically against Srinivas. He has also sustained injuries and is being treated at the hospital.
The villagers staged a protest against authorities by blocking National Highway 234 as there were no speed breakers near the school. Chintamani police have registered the case and investigations are underway.
