Special Dubai court to resolve cases in one day

A new court in Dubai will cut waiting time by 60 per cent, issue quick verdicts in turn saving the government Dh40 million, officials said on Tuesday.
The new court initiative to be implemented by all police stations in Dubai comes under Penal Order Law No. 1 of 2017 approved by His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
The new law on 'Penal Notices' was approved during a meeting held at the Dubai Executive Council's head office at Emirates Towers today,
The 'One Day Misdemeanour Court' initiative will start in every police station from Wednesday and will resolve cases within a day for 21 different types of cases.
It is expected to cut waiting time in Dubai Courts by 60 per cent, speeding up the issuance of verdicts and saving the government Dh40 million annually in expenses. The initiative aims to curtail time required in investigation and prosecution by implementing a verdict in two phases within 24 hours.
Types of cases to be handled By the General Directorate of Residency:
- Illegal entry into the country
- Returning after deportation
- Staying in the country illegally
- Working after a ban
- Absconding
Cases to be handled by the Muraqqabat police station:
- Possession of alcoholic beverages
- Alcohol abuse
- Giving a cheque with malicious intent
- Signing on the back side of the cheque (without sufficient funds)
- Failure to make due payment
- Begging
- Illegal vendors
Cases to be handled by the Traffic Prosecution:
- Involved in an accident that compromised someone's safety
- Damaging properties
- Drinking and driving
- Driving under the influence of alcohol
- Illegal possession of alcoholic beverages
- Driving a car without a licence
