A management graduate was allegedly denied a job by a Mumbai-based firm for being Muslim, forcing a lawyer to move the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) on Thursday. "I have a copy of the mail where it is mentioned that my application has been rejected because I am a Muslim," Zeshan Khan said. He had reportedly applied for a position at Mumbai-based Hare Krishna Exports Pvt. Ltd, a diamond export conglomerate with offices around the world. After getting the rejection from the firm, Khan posted his experience on Facebook, forcing the company to send a clarification, saying it does not discriminate on the basis of religion and that the "erroneous" rejection letter was sent by a fresh joinee. "Their email said that we don't employ Muslims, we only hire non-Muslim candidates," Zeshan said, adding, "The company should change their ideology. It should not discriminate against candidates on the basis of religion, or else the nation won't progress." NCM chairman Naseem Ahmed has acknowledged the receipt of a petition filed by lawyer Shehzad Poonawalla. "If there is any truth in this, it is unfortunate. An inquiry shall be conducted," Ahmed said.
