Heavy rain and thunder-storm hits Bhatkal

Bhatkal - Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and thunder-storm which started at around mid-night yesterday damaged several electric poles and many trees were uprooted at several places here in Bhatkal. A Mysore-Panaji Volvo came under a falling tree at NH 17 near Haneefabad and went off the road, due to this, traffic on the NH 17 was temporarily disrupted. All the 20 passengers on board Volvo escaped unhurt. Speaking to bhatkallys.com, the bus driver Mr. Srinivas said that at round 2:30 am I saw a tree falling down on the road and to save the bus from the falling tree and electric wires, I suddenly took the bus off the road.
