Dubai announces new rule on traffic offences

Eligible drivers will be able to benefit immediately from the orders.
 Dubai, April 20,2017 (KT):Bringing smiles to motorists in the emirate, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has exempted drivers, who commit non-dangerous traffic violations, from confiscation of their vehicles. Also, vehicles that have completed half the duration of the confiscation period will be released.
Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, said that this gesture is in line with the Year of Giving announcement of the President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, He said that the move will help motorists who do not have a track record of committing serious accidents and dangerous violations. The decision will be applied immediately to the drivers who meet the conditions of exemption. However, violations like reckless driving, illegal racing, jumping the red signal, speeding and endangering lives of pedestrians and causing damages to other vehicles are not exempted from the confiscation, the Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police added. He reminded motorists that respect for traffic rules is one of the most important features of civilised societies.
