CBI books Karnataka Minister in Deputy Superintendent of Police suicide case

The Central Bureau of Investigation has registered a suicide abetment case against Karnataka Minister K.J. George, the then Bengaluru City’s Additional Director-General of Police (Intelligence) A.M. Prasad and Inspector-General of Police Pronav Mohanty in connection with suicide of Deputy Superintendent of Police M. K. Ganapathy. The case has been registered pursuant to the Supreme Court directive on September 5, directing the CBI to investigate into the police officer’s death. In a television interview given hours before his death, Mr. Ganapathy had accused the then Home Minister K.J. George, Mr. Prasad and Mr. Mohanty of harassing him. As per the court complaint filed by his son Nehal, his father died as he was being harassed by the three accused. “The complainant expressed the suspicion about the death of his father and therefore, he had filed a written complaint before the police sub-inspector at the Kushal Nagar police station on July 10, 2016. However, the police officer had allegedly refused to register the complaint,” said an official. The FIR quotes Nehal’s plea before the court stating that the three accused persons were influential persons and had used their power to ensure that there was no police action.
