Book MLA, others in Rudrapur case, orders court

In a major development the district court Udhamsinghnagar has directed the local police to a register case against about 275 persons, including BJP MLA from Rudrapur under different Sections of the IPC in connection with the October 2, 2011 incident in Rudrapur in which about four persons died and several were injured.

Taking a serious note of the incident the court has now directed SSP Udhamsinghnagar to register cases under different Sections of the IPC. Talking to The Pioneer Nilesh Anand Bharane, SSP, Udhamsinghnagar, informed that the court has directed to file cases against the suspects in different Sections of the IPC, including Sections 307, 302, 147, 145.

Now the police are investigating the matter and would take necessary steps under the law in this regard, the SSP asserted, adding there are about 275 suspects, including BJP MLA from Rudrapur Raj Kumar Thukral, and a local BSP leader and a local Congress leader, who have been found involved in the October 2, 2011 incident.

However, when the BJP MLA from Rudrapur, Raj Kumar Thukral was contacted, he said that he honours the court's verdict. "I also have full faith in the local police," Thukral stated.

"I hope the local police would work in a fair manner in this case. So I have full faith in the judiciary", the local Rudrapur MLA maintained. It is worth mention here that about four persons died and several others were injured in this October 2 incident in which miscreants of different communities clashed over some trifle matter on that day.

More so, keeping in view the gravity of the situation the then State Government had to remove the then DIG, Kumaon range, and DM and SSP of Udhamsinghnagar and directed the then Garhwal Commissioner to conduct an inquiry into this matter.

Following these disturbances, the local administration had to impose curfew in the district for many days until the situation became normal.
