After WannaCry, Judy infects millions of Androids

Now Judy, a malware putting 36.5 million Android phones at risk. According to security solutions firm Check Point, the malware uses devices to generate large amounts of fraudulent clicks on advertisements, generating revenues for the perpetrators. Check Point said on its blog, that the total spread of the malware campaign on Google Play may have reached between 8.5 and 36.5 million users. However, it wasn’t clear which countries have been impacted by the Judy malware till now. Found on 41 apps developed by a Korean company, the adware is auto clicking, as per a report of HT. “Some of the apps (that were infected) we discovered resided on Google Play for several years, but all were recently updated. It is unclear how long the malicious code existed inside the apps, hence the actual spread of the malware remains unknown,” it added. The apps were removed from the Play store after Check Point notified Google about the threat, the blog further said. It is not too long a ransomware, WannaCry had hit over 100 countries earlier this month including Russia and the UK. It had infected computers carrying the older versions of Microsoft operating systems like XP, locking access to files on the computer and asking for a huge amount of money. Reports suggested that India was one of the worst hit by the malware, while the government says that there were just a few stray incidents in India.
